Swine Flu brought a Horrible Chest Congestion That Won't Go Away?

Question:
4 weeks ago I woke up with severe chest congestion. I couldn't breathe
I went to the doctor for it, they told me I had H1N1
They gave me a breathing treatment, a cocktail shot and prescriptions for Tamiflu
I took my meds and got over the flu in 4 days. The chest congestion had also gone away.
I've had a cough for about the last 2 weeks.
This past week has become severe again. Thursday and Friday felt as if i was breathing with half a lung.

I've never had trouble breathing ever, and it's upsetting to have gotten swine flu in the first place. I've been using Vicks vapor rub, cough drops and tea.
The doctor's is my last resort, I can't afford it and don't want ER debt. I work with kids and catch everything so I visit my doctor almost every other month. Anyone have any suggestions before I have to head to the doctors?
Answer:
It sounds like you have probably developed a lung infection. Bronchitis or most likely pneumonia. You don't want to let that go. Definitely check in with your doc or drop by an urgent care clinic. You probably need a chest xray.

Is tamiflu tablets safe?

Question:
my little boy is 6 year old doctor gave him tamifle tablets are they safe to use
Answer:
There is no evidence that Tamiflu is unsafe. The drug commonly causes vomiting but it should reduce the risk of secondary complications and general severity of the virus. Source(s): RN

Do they give you a different medication depending if it's swine flu or regular flu?

Question:
There's Tamiflu, and something else. Do you get Tamiflu for one and the other thing for the other?

If not, is there a reason for knowing which kind of flu you have, other than for statistical purposes?
Answer:
They told me that they are being treated the same way. In WA they do not even bother to see which it is because the h1 n1 test is so unreliable.

Jax had h1n1 (supposedly) and he was given Tami flu (should be same med for regular flu).

Scare tactic, I imagine...

Can you take tamiflu and theraflu at the same time?

Question:

Answer:
Tamiflu is a prescription anti-viral medication that kills viruses, but does not relieve the symptoms of the flu (fever, aches, etc.)
Theraflu is an over-the-counter symptom relief medication that does not kill viruses.

Yes, you can take both at the same time as long as you are not allergic to the ingredients in either medication. They do not adversely react together.

Should I go to an emergicare center?

Question:
i'm home sick and my dad thinks that i have the swine flu. therefore instead of filling up the emergency rooms and waiting to get in to an appt. with a doctor he plans on taking me to an emergicare center to get what he thinks a shot but my mom thinks i'd get those tamiflu pills. do you find it really necessary to go?

my symptoms are:
-bad deep cough
-runny/stuffy nose
-fever of 102.4
-achy body and joint pains

-thanks (:
Answer:
I'd go just to be on the safe side. They can give you medication to help it go away quicker and can make sure your lungs sound pneumonia free. That's a big concern with the flu.

H1N1 with no fever neg test but doc said he has it?

Question:
Took son to doc. negative influ. A test but doc says he has it. and treating with Tamiflu. H1n1 is a panademic in our county also. Kids in his school have it. But he has no fever. He had a headache that would not ago away, stomache, slight sore throat and a backache.

He has asthma and right now it is really bad.
But he is acting normal. He looks tired. But just takes naps here and there. Up walking around eating etc.

What I want to know is
Ask this question earlier today but wanted to ask again Thank you

Has anyone heard of someone having H1N1 with no fever and with minor symptoms. I am confused.
7 hours ago - 4 days left to answer.
Answer:
It is very common for a carrier of the virus to have experienced a fever as a symptom. If he has not, it's highly unlikely he's a carrier, but it can happen.

Although, he should have had muscle aches everywhere. I'm in doubt, but don't take my word for it.

H1n1 - neg test but doc says still have it and no fever?

Question:
Son is 11 years old

Took son to doc. negative influ. A test but doc says he has it. and treating with Tamiflu. H1n1 is a panademic in our county also. Kids in his school have it. But he has no fever. He had a headache that would not ago away, stomache, slight sore throat and a backache.

What I want to know is
Has anyone heard of someone having H1N1 with no fever and with minor symptoms. I am confused.
Answer:
Definitely.

As with seasonal influenza, H1N1 influenza does not produce a fever in everyone. Most people, but by no means all

And most of the tests that are done in-house to test for Influenza A do not always catch every case....there are false positives. Your doc was absolutely right to assume positive and, in your son's case (asthma) treat him with Tamiflu right away.

Most people who get H1N1 will have mild symptoms. So what you have described is not uncommon!

Hope this helps Source(s): background in microbiology and immunology

Found out yesterday that I have swine flu...when should i be able to go back to work?

Question:
I have been feeling "symptoms" since friday night, but I just found out yesterday (monday morning) that it is in fact swine flu, and gave me Tamiflu. The doctor gave me a note to go back to work on wednesday. I work with infants, do you think I will be okay to still go back to work tomorrow?
Answer:
well, from my point of view, i say once the virus has cleared (once you feel better) then you may go back. but give yourself 1-2 days after you feel better so you can feel 100% sure.
the flu isnt bad but better off not handing it over to the infants..
stay home
and get well soon!

Has the H1N1 Flu hit your house yet?

Question:
So it finally hit my house. My almost 9 month old son has the Swine Flu. We spent hours in the ER last night, because his fever was so high and he was panting like a dog. Has any body else had thier chitheirtch it? How long did the fever last? He was too young to get the Tamiflu so we're just doing Tylenol and Motrin and trying to push fluids.
Answer:
yes! unfortunately my daughter has it! :(

Help...i have either tami flu or swine flu...cold hands and feet yet very high temperature?

Question:
i have a fever of between 103-104 F. i went to the doctor's today and she gave me TAMIFLU. my doctor said if i eat it and my fever doesn't go down, it means i DON'T have swine flu. but she said if my fever DOES reduce, then i DO have swine flu.
anyways, i've eaten my first dose of TAMIFLU at 5:20 PM (U.S. time) and my next dose is at 5:20 AM.
anyways...i've been miserable ystrday and today. i'm freezing cold but my body is way too hot for me to put any blankets on or such.
plus...i haven't pooped since ystrday.
any advice on anything..please do give. i am just effing miserable right now. stomach feels pretty full in a bad way, rarely coughing, stuffy nose, blazing fever (i just ate 2 tablets of ibuprofen), cold hands and feet, slight dizziness...and lonliness.
i'm scared to go to sleep too. in case my fever goes up even higher.
Answer:
If you have any sort of flu, the Tamiflu medicine will help reduce the amount of time you feel ill. You may have swine flu, you may have another sort. If what ails you isn't a viral infection, the medicine will have no effect on you at all. In the meantime, you are just going to feel ratty. The best thing you could do is rest and drink plenty of fluids, and sleep would not be a bad idea. The Ibuprofen should help lower your temperature to below 102, and allow you to be comfy enough to sleep. Sleep is an excellent healer, since it will let your body concentrate on beating off the buggies. Take the Tamiflu as prescribed, and just drink until your molars threaten to float out of your mouth. You can eat whatever you like or feel up to, though things like soup usually go down easiest. This is the time to put on your favorite ratty jammies, put in a favorite old movie, and curl up on the couch with a pillow and blanket. It's not the time to be sociable. Leave the phone and the computer alone for a while. If it's flu, and the Tamiflu is successful, you can look forward to rejoining the human race in about a week. Until then, you are just ratty no matter what you do. Sorry, there are no miracle cures. Drink and rest, dear. Source(s): nurse

Tamiflu and pregnancy?

Question:
I was just released from the hospital the other day, as I went in thinking I had the flu. I was eventually omitted into the hospital not because of the flu symptoms I did have but because of bronchitis and my asthma was going out of control. For my flu symptoms, they put me on the tamiflu, though after one day I was completely better. The results have yet to come in, but im still taking the tamiflu and myself along with some of the doctors feel that I did not have the flu, but decided I need to take this as a per caution. My question, since the tamiflu is so new and has not been tested on pregnant women, has anyone taken the tamiflu and had their baby without any complications. As a first time mother, I am very concerned about this. Especially when the doctors told me that they do not know the risks, and since the baby is so tiny at this point (im 16 weeks) they are more concerned about my health. Thanks for your answers!
Answer:
I am 21 weeks +6 days pregnant and I am taking Tamiflu. I am also worried about taking it and I have done a lot of research and read reviews about Tamiflu. Its really a catch 22 because 50% of people say that its fine and 50% of people say its not fine. It doesn't provide us with enough confidence to take it or not. However, after reading everything and becoming more and more nervous I called my OBGYN and asked if it was really safe to take this medicine since its rated as a Cat C drug for pregnancy. My doctor assured me that there are several patients in her office that are pregnant and taking this medicine and all of them are doing just fine. So I have to agree that its better to take the Tamiflu then to risk being sick and have your baby die because you didn't take action to stop yourself from being sick. Its a scary risk but like some others have stated below. This medicine has been out for years and our doctors are there to help us and benefit us as much as possible. They are not looking to hurt you or the baby so take the medicine. Its only for five days. I'm sure everything will be fine. I've been on Tamiflu for three days now and my baby is still as active as ever before. I can feel him kicking all the time. So just try to relax and take the Tamiflu. I felt terrible three days ago and now I'm feeling much better thanks to the medicine. Source(s): I've researched several sites on Bing.com, Google, and MSN. But mainly from experience w/Tamiflu I believe everything is fine.

Almost 22 weeks pregnant with a boy - this is my first child!!!

Pay to pay, and Don't pay to Not-Pay? Oh, I get it. It's a paradox!?

Question:
I pay for Health Insurance so that I can pay a portion of the cost of medicines, like TamiFlu. Homeless people don't pay taxes so that they can have MedicAid and Not-pay for medicines like TamiFlu.

How is the future of the Health Care Industry going to be any different from the current situation? Is this what Congress was thinking when they decided to fine people for not having Health Insurance?

Y!A wanted to put this question in "Jokes & Riddles," but I'm not kidding!
Answer:
your logic is flawed and only represents a small percentage of people.
There are a lot of people that do not qualify for medicaid and either aren't offered insurance or their insurance premiums are too high...
I am not saying that I agree with the universal health care (to be honest I don't know enough about it) but I can see some advantages.
I think everyone should get an opportunity to health care.
Healthy people tend to be more productive (I say tend because there always is exceptions. In this case there may be many, still.......) Source(s): *edit*- I am not attacking your right to grumble at your medication bill, one of the caseworkers I worked with could not get any coverage for tamiflu because it was preventive rather than necessary (as she was traveling in area's where her exposure would be greater)We called around and could not find it for <$79 for ten pills...(at walmart it was $121. for the ten pills....
the cost for medication is outrageous, but with all the lawsuits and work that goes into it I am not sure that it is totally unjustified, but it does seem unrealistic. I digress.
It may not be fair but would you have the poor die or start an epidemic? Surely as a father you must preach about compassion....In NY if you are on medicaid you still pay a certain percent of what you can afford based on your income, unless it is I think like antibiotics that are on the $4 list which are free.
*****edited later*******
I am not trying to imply that you are selfish what I am trying to point out is that humanity looks out for one another, and I am sure that you as a father teach that to your children....
You have a right to be angry that you still have to pay for medicine, but I think (and please correct me if I am wrong-because I would like to know) that that would be a problem with your specific insurance and how the coverage is. In addition, some medicaid recipients still pay taxes and are employed. Demographically I think you are underestimating this and overestimating the pessimistic view that people don't want to work. I don't think you may be thinking of other groups such as those that one parent lost their job and the other makes significantly less and they can't afford insurance and have children to take care of; being a father I am sure you know how much children need medical care even if it is minimal such as vaccinations for school but can be much more significant such as asthma and diabetes.

Pregnant, should I buy an Antiviral now?

Question:
I live in Colorado, and the town I'm in has pretty much been bombarded with swine flu. I'm now 20 weeks pregnant, and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before someone brings it into my house. I'm pretty worried about it. Since I'm pregnant, I've heard that I'm considered "high risk" for swine flu complications. Should I go to the doctor and ask to get Tamiflu or Relenza now, or wait and see if I start feeling sick?
Answer:
I don't think a doctor will give you anything until you actuall catch swine flu. Yes pregnant women are considerd high risk but it's the same with any type of illness.

I would try not to worry about it and just keep clean. Don't let anyone in your house that has come into contact with swine flu. Swine flu isn't as bad as normal flu it's just got more hyp about it at the moment.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

How long does Tamiflu cause psychotic episodes in children?

Question:

Answer:
PRESS RELEASE

Ginger cures dangerous Methods of cuement of Swine flu - Mr. Garg

NEW DELHI: A holistic healer claims to have cured patients threatened with dangerous Swine flu by treating them with certain amount of the ginger juice followed by nutritious diet along with allopathic treatment given to them in hospitals.

Sunil Kumar Garg, holistic healer, says that ginger juice fights with infection valiently and starts fast build-up of blood platelets whose count goes down appreciably and the patient starts recovering with eight hours.

With every dose of ginger, Mr Garg gives 'imli' water several times round-the-clock. Besides, he would prescribe sour things like nimboo-pani, pickle, abharak, sakarkandi, pomegranate juice, pine-apple juice, curd, chach, apple and 'kadhi-chawal' which he says increase platelets putting the patient out danger. Avoid taking 'roti subzi' during this period, he adds.

While Swine flu has claimed many lives in Delhi and elsewhere, Mr Garg says "the patient would be out of hospital within 24 hours if the medical authorities allow me to give this treatment."

Once you come to know that you're having symptoms by Swine flu, get your blood report before rushing to hospital. "One can get my treatment immediately without going to hospital," he says, adding that hospital care does help in emergency cases.

In Swine flu temperature shoots up and virtually breaks the body and the patient feels too fatigued to even get up. He or she feels itching while urinating but in less quantity. Body becomes rigid. Get the CBC (complete blood count) done to find out the status of TLC, ESR, Hb and platelets.

In Swine flu, the level of platelets, TLC, RBC, ESR and Hb (iron deficiency) goes down. "With my treatment not only TLC but other parameters also come to normal range of 4,500 to 11,000,"

Swine flu Disease the mixture of Ginger (10 teaspoon), Lemon (3 teaspoon), and Haney (2 teaspoon) is helpful in increasing will power of the body.. By taking this amount after gaping 6 hours in a day, By taking the above amount the level of ESR can be decreasing and also the count of TLC become normal, the level of HB goes on increasing and the number of platens can not be goes on decreasing which helps in making our body fit and fine, By taking the above amount the body temperature becomes normal. Cough, cold and asthma can also be cured, Cancer and Dengue can also be 100% cured by taking the specified amount, When the level of ESR becomes high diseases can easily attack on our body so by taking the above amount one can easily be cured from upcoming diseases, Also I hope through my treatment Swine flu can also be cured.

Pregnant, would U take Tamiflu for Swine Flu?

Question:

Im six months pregnant with bub number 2!!

and i just want to know if anyone has taken or known of a pregnant woman who has taken tamiflu when diagnosed with swine flu..???

and, also mums to be---- would u take medication for swine flu if u got it??

please dont answer if u are going to say- dont stress about it unless u get swine!! i just want other pregnant womans opinions!

thanks :)

Answer:

Having conceived and birthed 4 children, I am very familiar with the state of pregnancy. :)

While not one prone to over-worry, I also don't like to be one to stick my head in the sand and take things "as they come". I prefer to live by the mentality "Best if prepared". People who don't think ahead are the ones who get caught off-guard and make bad choices.

Before taking any over-the counter drug, you need to find out from your doctor or a pharmacist if it is safe to take during pregnancy. That would be my big concern. They are constantly upgrading and changing what is considered "safe", "not safe" and "unknown". If it was not safe I would not take it. If it was safe, I'd take it. I'd have some serious considering to do if it was one of the unknowns. BTW, you can call any pharmacist and ask them to tell you if it is on the safe list or not. ;) You can also search for it online by searching on the name of the drug + pregnancy.

I had a friend that was taking a drug for anxiety when she was pregnant. Her doctor swore to her it was safe. (She was willing to go off during the pregnancy) When the baby was born, she had horrible heart defects, as well as other defects. And then a few months later, she learned of a whole group of defects (including heart defects and the others the girl suffers from) associated with taking the drug. Her daughter would have been fine if not for the drug her doctor swore was safe, and she still blames herself. It's so sad...

So knowing this, I have always been absolutely crazy-vigilant about what I put in my body when pregnant. Unless my very life depended on it, I would risk it <>.

As for the swine flu, it is mostly hyped up by the media, who is bored with (and knows everyone is sick of hearing about) the economy. Only people who are in poor health or have underlying health issues are dying. The rest are just feeling miserable for a couple weeks, same as if they got the regular flu. No fun, but not deadly.

Good luck with you #2! I wish you a speedy delivery! Source(s): Mom of 4 (10 yrs to 20 months)

How much money did the makers of tamiflu make from their lastest scam?

Question:

this years scam being swine flu, bird flu previously and who knows what they will come up with next year?

obviously they made less than the year all governments stockpiled the drug - but theres an expiry date so its repeat business

are you onto them yet?

1000 points to anyone can name the owners of the company that makes tamiflu! (they are also behind the swine and bird flu propaganda)

Answer:

As a chemist I know the neutral fact. U asked "How much money did the makers of tamiflu make from their latest scam?". I may ask how much money the manufacturer of Tamiflu (oseltamivir) spend during their research, development, marketing of Tamiflu?

Pl read the following: A media source notes that Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. (which produces Tamiflu in Japan) gave Yokota's department 10 million yen (about US$105,000) over five years. To determine whether to lift the 2007 ban, a research team from the Japanese Health, Labour and Welfare Ministry studied 10,000 children under the age of 18 who had been diagnosed with influenza since 2006. The study was finalised in April 2009. Taking into account all degrees of abnormal behaviour, including minor behavioural problems such as incoherent speech, the study found that children who took Tamiflu were 54 per cent more likely to exhibit abnormal behaviour than those who did not take the drug. When the team limited its analysis to children who had displayed serious abnormal behaviour that led to injury or death, it found those who had taken Tamiflu were 25 per cent more likely to behave unusually.

Moreover Tamiflu is not a effective drug for swine flu. According to the CDC, Tamiflu (oseltamivir) capsule may not be able to treat Flu type A, the most common influenza virus in 2008. Doctors are being warned to watch out for it so they can attempt to use other treatments if Tamiflu doesn't work.

[Tamiflu (oseltamivir) was developed by US-based Gilead Sciences and is currently marketed by Hoffmann-La Roche (Roche) under the trade name Tamiflu. In Japan, it is marketed by Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., which is more than 50% owned by Roche.]

Tamiflu is not a good drug for h1n1 or swine flu, it has many hazards. Pl look at the following: In November 2006, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) amended the warning label to include the possible side effects of delirium, hallucinations, or other related behavior. This went further than the FDA's previous pronouncement, from a year before, that there was insufficient evidence to claim a causal link between oseltamivir use and the deaths of 12 Japanese children (only two were from neurological problems, although more have died since then). The change to a more cautionary stance was attributed to 103 new reports that the FDA received of delirium, hallucinations and other unusual psychiatric behavior, mostly involving Japanese patients, received between August 29, 2005 and July 6, 2006. This was an increase from the 126 similar cases logged between the drug's approval in 1999 and August 2005.

My 6yr old tested positive for the flu on Monday but now shows no signs of illness. Can my nanny come back?

Question:

I'm simply trying to figure out if I can ask our 19 yr old sitter to come back to our house tomorrow after my daughter was diagnosed with the flu on Monday. She was extremely ill on Monday but by Tuesday morning she has been absolutely fine! Maybe it was the awesome prescription for Tamiflu that worked...I have no idea. But today she has been fantastic. Now I would like to know if it's okay to ask our nanny to come back to work tomorrow?? Does anyone know??

Answer:

Only you can make that decision. But considering that flus are generally non-recurring it should be fine. If it were me I would wait 1 more day just to be certain.

Can you buy Tamiflu over the counter? or is it only prescription?

Question:

The county next to me has a probable case of swine flu, so I am freaked out.

Answer:

Tamiflu is an antiviral drug, not an antibiotic, but it still requires a prescription. Believe me, if it were determined that you were infected with the H1N1 flu right now, medical staff will make sure you get Tamiflu or Relenza, the other antiviral drug being used. The CDC, the WHO and your local government want to contain this flu as much as you do. Relax.

Can 'Tamiflu', (a treatment against swine flu), be ordered online?

Question:

Answer:

Yes, but if you take it when you do not have swine flu, if you do get it, it will not work. It is not a vaccine. If you get it after taking tamiflu, the virus will mutate so it is not effective anymore and the next person you pass it onto will have no treatment. So don't go searching for it.

It is believed that a further mutation would be needed in order for the H1N1 virus to cause the mass deaths that have been estimated by some.

But at this point, it is impossible to predict with any accuracy how the virus will continue to evolve.

UK experts at the National Institute for Medical Research will outline on Friday the work they are due to start on samples of the virus sent from the US.

The research, being done at the World Influenza Centre in Mill Hill, will be vital for working out the structure of the virus, where it came from, how quickly it is capable of spreading and its potential to cause illness.

The swine flu strain is a H1N1 virus, the same type as seasonal flu which circulates throughout the world every year, and kills roughly 1% of those infected.

I believe the government is definately hyping this up so they can distract our attentions from the god awful mess they made with the economy. All we can do is improve our hygiene and let the WHO make our decisions. We should be aware about this, but not concerned. There are over six billion people in the world, and 200 or so have died, the proportion is very little. So don't worry. I feel sorry for the families, but then again, I feel angered that Mexico has done nothing to stop it spreading apart from giving out those silly masks. But then again, these things happen all around the world and it doesnt get reported, and the media hype things up.

Worrying about this will do nothing, worrying makes your immune system lower because you get less sleep and you eat less. So stop worrying about something we can't affect. Mother Nature obviously thinks this is the best thing to happen to the human race, but we have survived much worse! If we got wiped out after every virus threat, civilisation probably wouldnt have lasted very long.

If we ended up in a pandemic, people would start panic buying non perishable foods, would stay indoors, borders would be closed, travel restricted, people would basically go into hiding.
